Watch vintage 1986 Leonard Nimoy interview for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

We’re all still reeling from the death of sci-fi legend Leonard Nimoy, so what better way to say goodbye than by listening to the man himself talk Star Trek?

A vintage 1986 interview with Nimoy that was conducted to coincide with the release of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home has surfaced via Eyes on CinemaIn addition to starring as Spock, Nimoy also directed the film. The interview is an amazing blast from the past, and finds Nimoy joking about how everyone else has gotten older, but he’s still young. For the longest time, that really seemed to be true.

Nimoy also talks about the spirit of Star Trek, and how it changed in the decades since the original series debuted and the fourth film rolled around in 1986. It’s fascinating to think how long this franchise has been around now, listening to Nimoy being wistful with nostalgia a full 28 years ago:

“Everything has changed. We have changed, the approach to the show has changed. I would say on another level, in another way, we have now come back full circle in Star Trek IV, I think we are closer in attitude toward the original series … Very much in the spirit we used to have when we were making the TV series.”

Check out the full interview below, and rest in peace, Mr. Nimoy:
