They took their sweet time, but LEGO has announced that a timey-wimey, official Doctor Who playset is finally in production.
The Doctor Who and Companions LEGO set will feature an awesome LEGO TARDIS, as well as many versions of the Doctor in cute LEGO minifigure form. The set will also include companions, as well as several classic Who monsters, like those space pepper-pots the Daleks, the Cybermen and showrunner Steven Moffat’s scary creation, the Weeping Angels.
There are no design and release details available yet, since it’s very early days, and the product images that you see above and in the gallery below are not the final ones, but the pics Andrew Clark submitted to LEGO.
Also going into production will be a WALL-E set, based on Disney’s popular animated movie. This particular submission was made by one of the film’s crew members, with the prototype having interestingly been developed during production.
Here’s what Emma Owen, U.K. spokesperson for LEGO Ideas, had to say:
“We’re extremely excited to announce that a Doctor Who and a WALL-E set will be released as our next Lego Ideas fan based sets, congratulations to the designers Andrew Clark and [WALL-E] Angus MacLane! After receiving over 10,000 votes from the online community and having gone through rigorous toy testing from our expert panel, these awesome sets are on track to be on shelves later this year. The final set designs, pricing and availability are being worked out as we speak, so watch this space for the final details!”
