The first trailer for Marvel's Daredevil is here in all its gritty glory

At last, we've arrived at a moment fans of Marvel's Man Without Fear have long been waiting for. More than a decade after a disappointing big-screen appearance, Matt Murdock returned to Marvel Studios, where it was decided that he would not just get a chance at live-action redemption, but also lead the charge for a bold new Marvel project. This spring, Daredevil will hit Netflix with one big, all-out, 13-episode assault, and hot on its heels will be AKA Jessica JonesIron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders. Marvel's opening up a whole new world of Cinematic Universe storytelling this year, and Daredevil is leading the way with 13 hours of what Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada termed "street level noir" from showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.

Over the past year or so, we've heard the casting announcements, we've listened to the hype, we've felt our excitement building, and now the first Daredevil trailer is here. It's only 90 seconds, but it definitely packs a punch, particularly if you're into the gritty Frank Miller Daredevil run that remains a defining chapter in the character's history. We get Catholicism, we get brooding, we get halogen streetlights reflected in rain-soaked Hell's Kitchen streets. We get all-too-brief glimpses of the Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). Most of all, though, we get Charlie Cox in the title role, and we get to see plenty of his look both in and out of what's still the more primitive black Daredevil costume. Even if you don't dig the suit, though, it's hard to argue that the man inside of it looks primed for a fight. Check it out:

How about that final shot, huh? A battered hero, blood and rain? Frank Miller would be proud.

Daredevil arrives on Netflix, all at once, at 12 a.m. PST on April 10, 2015. Will you be watching?
