Paul Feig reveals one unusual source of inspiration for his new Ghostbusters flick

Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) was on last night’s AMC’s Talking Dead -- which follows The Walking Dead -- where the director talked about the upcoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot coming at Sony next summer.

While on the show, Feig revealed one VERY unusual source of inspiration for the new Ghostbusters flick, which is a complete reboot of the series, and not a continuation -- something we already knew, by the way, but it’s really nice to hear Feige himself confirm that. So, who did he call to inspire him?

“I will say, I was very inspired by this show,” Feig said after skating past a question about zombies in Ghostbusters. “What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it's always about gauntlet run. And that's something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off of The Walking Dead.”

Well, that's rather interesting, but did Feig say that just because he was on Talking Dead? Perhaps, but perhaps not, since AMC's hit series The Walking Dead is often cited as inspiration for quite a lot of projects nowadays. But what do you guys think about the fact that The Walking Dead was something of a source of inspiration for Paul Feig’s upcoming, female-led Ghostbusters reboot? What could be drawn from the show to inform Ghostbusters?

Starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, Ghostbusters is set to open in theaters on July 22, 2016.
