Tripping, flubbing, and breaking swords in new Game of Thrones bloopers

Every year, when a new Game of Thrones Blu-ray set is released, fans get excited, not just because they get to see their favorite moments from the past season over again, but because they get plenty of new goodness from Westeros to savor, including behind-the-scenes footage, appendices, and of course, bloopers. The last of those is particularly wonderful for many fans, because it's always nice to know that, while the finished product is grim, bloody, and often heartbreaking, the show is actually great fun to make for the legion of cast and crew.

The season four box set hit stores earlier this week, and so of course a new 90-second clip packed with bloopers has now surfaced online. As usual, when a blooper reel is well-edited, a few motifs emerge. For one, the cast has to keep calling for their lines, which is understandable given how many names, places, and intricate insults they have to keep in their brains while shooting. That segment of the reel features a particularly delightful moment when Conleth Hill asks for a line in character as Varys: "Liiiiiiine."

Another motif: Everyone keeps slipping on the dozens and dozens of stone steps that characters are always walking down. Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger), Lena Headey (Cersei), and Pedro Pascal (Oberyn) all take little slips in the middle of otherwise poised scenes of high drama. Plus, Ser Pounce fails to hit his mark, Joffrey and Margaery share an awkward wedding kiss, swords break in the heat of battle, and Pascal can't keep it together and breaks into a coughing fit after walking through a cloud of incense. Even the always-steely Charles Dance messes something up.
