It's Henry Cavill v Brandon Routh in Superman: Flyby screentests

In the early 2000s, Superman: Flyby (written by J.J. Abrams himself) was in the works, and the flick’s director, McG, had met with a lot of actors for the part of the Man of Steel.

After meeting up with a lot of hopefuls for the role of Superman/Clark Kent, McG narrowed his choice to a handful of actors and had them shoot test footage in the iconic red-and-blue Superman suit.

Some of the actors who tested for the role were Jason Behr (Roswell), Jared Padalecki (Supernatural), Michael Cassidy (Argo, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and two future Supermen: Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) and Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman).

Now, we don’t exactly have the footage (we know, we know, it sucks), but we’ve got the next best thing: pics of each actor in the Superman: Flyby suit during said screen tests (via thinkmcflythink). Have a look at the gallery below; we’ve also included a few shots of the costume. You know, for science.

As we all know, director McG’s Superman flick was never made. Warner Bros. had spent a ton of cash on preproduction and wanted the superhero-movie-that-never-was to film in Australia because of their tax rebate programs. But McG — who’s actually scared s***less of flying — refused to head to the Land Down Under, wanting to shoot the film in New York and Canada instead.

So, who do you think wore the Superman: Flyby costume the best, Brandon Routh or Henry Cavill? Who do you think is the best Man of Steel?
