The world is fire and blood in new Mad Max: Fury Road international trailer

A new action-packed international trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road — starring Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) in the role of the titular hero trying to survive beyond Thunderdome in a harsh, apocalyptic wasteland — has been released.

The all-new trailer is Japanese, so there are lots of subtitles that go along with it (seriously, why so much writing?!) but it’s still very cool and conveys just how insane this movie is shaping up to be. Keen eyes will notice that there are some new shots peppered here and there throughout the clip.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Haunted by his turbulent past, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa (Charlize Theron).

They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

Directed by George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road is set to hit theaters on May 15, 2015.
