Rumor of the Day: Massive Star Wars: The Force Awakens shocker revealed?

We still know next to nothing about J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but a new rumor seems to indicate a really big event that could help kick off the series.

Potentially huge, major, massive, insanely big spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Still here? Good. Making Star Wars is offering up a bombshell that apparently comes from sources inside Pinewood Studios, where the sequel is being filmed -- sources the site claims are responsible for its most accurate reporting on the film. The report focuses on a scene that was reportedly shot, though obviously every scene won’t make it into the final cut. But if they’re actually shooting something this big, it’d stand to reason it’s a massive part of the story and will almost certainly be included.

The alleged scene finds Han Solo (Harrison Ford) hiding from new big baddie Kylo Ren, with Finn, Rey, Chewbacca and BB-8 nearby. Han apparently tries to confront Kylo Ren, and according to the report, Kylo “silences the conversation forever.” After that, Chewbacca is extremely upset and Han is never seen again.

This will be huge and shocking if it turns out to be true, but honestly, it’s not much of a surprise. Han Solo was meant to die in an early draft of Return of the Jedi, and Ford has previously said he’d like to see the character go out in a blaze of glory. Judging by this scene, it sounds like Han takes on the baddie to help the rest of the group escape — and that would definitely make for a fairly impressive blaze of glory (and a mirror version of Obi-Wan's death in A New Hope, which would fit with J.J. Abrams' tendency to do that kind of thing, a la Spock shouting "KHAAN" in Into Darkness).

Obviously, take this with a massive grain of salt at this point, but it stands to reason there will be some type of handoff for the younger cast members to take the helm. Killing off some longtime major players would be the most immediate way to create a narrative vacuum for them to fill.

What do you think? Is this one true? Do you want it to be true?
