These 1940s car advertisements show off the retro-future we always wanted

If you’re looking for a quick distraction, or to take a jaunt to the retro future we never got, this should do the trick.

The folks at io9 have compiled several vintage pieces of art developed by Detroit-based Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corporation. The pieces imagined a stylish retro future as only the 1940s could dream up, and the art was mostly done by iconic illustrator Arthur Radebaugh. The artist made a career out of future-scapes, but his work for Bohn represents a very distinct lens of massive automobiles and soaring planes.

Kick back and enjoy this walk down memory lane for a world that never actually existed.
