The frustratingly great comic-based series Powers returns for a new season in 2016, and now we have the first trailer. Spoiler alert: It looks fantastic.
The PlayStation Network original series juggled some big and interesting ideas in Season 1, but dropped about as many balls as it managed to keep in the air. We're happy to report that the low-budget feel is definitely gone in this debut trailer, and it seems they’re starting to double down on the interesting stories they were only writing around last year. It was an interesting approach to save the big “Who Killed Retro Girl?” story for the end of the season — but it seems to be paying off in spades with Year Two. Oh, and there's 100 percent more Tricia Helfer, which is nice.
If nothing else, creator Brian Michael Bendis seems excited. Here’s what he had to say about the new season, as well as how things are changing after last year:
“[F]or those of you who checked out season one, I think your first reaction may be, ‘this looks different.’ It is. Just like our characters, we’re growing into our powers (bad pun intended) and the show has continued to evolve and grow in a way we are all extremely proud of.
Remi Aubuchon, our dazzling showrunner, led the charge of making some significant hires behind the scenes in the areas of cinematography, costumes, stunts, and production design.”

No premiere date has been announced just yet, but I can’t wait to see more.
