The (original) Reverse-Flash is coming back to The CW’s Flash this season

If you thought the story surrounding Season 1 Flash baddie the Reverse-Flash was over, think again. There’s just, you know, a twist.

Spoilers ahead for The Flash Season 1!

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Matt Letscher, aka the original face of Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash (before he stole the face of Harrison Wells), will return to the series in the back half of Season 2. He’s currently penciled in for the 11th episode, which is appropriately titled “The Reverse-Flash Returns.” For what it’s worth, here’s what Flash executive producer Todd Helbing teased about the episode:

“His impossible return to Central City puts a member of the S.T.A.R. Labs team in unexpected danger, forcing Barry to make a life-changing decision.”

As fans are likely wondering — how exactly is this possible? Well, there are a few options. We’ve already met the Earth-2 version of Harrison Wells (who was apparently never killed and replaced by Thawne in that world), so it stands to reason an Earth-2 version of the Reverse-Flash could travel back and find his way to Barry Allen’s neck of the woods. Heck, maybe he’s Zoom?

Considering the show has dabbled in time travel, it could also be a past version of Reverse-Flash, maybe? But that doesn’t fit, because he was effectively erased from existence when Eddie killed himself. So … is your brain hurting yet?

How do you think they plan on pulling this one off?

The Flash returns Tuesday, Jan. 19, on The CW.
