Megalyn Echikunwoke to bring animated Vixen to life on Arrow

Good news, everyone! The CW’s DC Universe is about to expand as animated character Vixen is set to make her live-action debut on Arrow.

TV Insider reports that actress Megalyn Echikunwoke will bring her comic-book character Mari McCabe, aka Vixen, to life on Arrow when the show returns from its midseason break. The actress has been voicing the character on the CW Seed’s cartoon web series of the same name this summer.

The Vixen animated series is considered canon and is firmly set within the CW’s Arrowverse that includes Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. It featured appearances by Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). Each actor voiced their animated counterparts.

Since Vixen — an African orphan who has the ability to mimic any animal — has already interacted with Arrowverse regulars in her animated series, it’ll be interesting to see how they’ll handle her introduction in live-action form, since not everyone has been watching the cartoon.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said, “We’re not only thrilled to be further expanding our DC television universe by bringing in the live-action incarnation of the CW Seed hit, Vixen, we’re immensely excited that Megalyn will be revisiting her role as Mari McCabe.”

Vixen will arrive in Star City, straight from Detroit, in Episode 15 of Arrow, set to air on Feb. 24.
