J.J. Abrams snuck his favorite easter egg into Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Fans across the world checked out Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Thursday night, while millions of additional fans will be heading back to a galaxy far, far away over the next few days. Well, while you’re there, keep an eye out for J.J. Abrams’ favorite easter egg.

In case you’re wondering: This is a spoiler-free easter egg, so no worries if you haven’t actually seen The Force Awakens just yet.

There’s a sly easter egg Abrams has managed to slip into everything from Lost, to Star Trek, through Fringe, Super 8 and Mission Impossible III. Now Star Wars has joined the list. So, what is it? The name of Abrams’ grandfather, “Kelvin.” As for the significance, Abrams was very close with his grandfather — and he’s apparently the one we can thank for turning Abrams into a “Mystery Box” geek. So, thanks? We think?

Looking back, Clancy Brown’s Lost character was named Kelvin Joe Inman; Kirk was born on the U.S.S. Kelvin in Star Trek; William Bell previously worked at a company called Kelvin Genetics on Fringe; Ethan Hunt receives a post cast addressed to “H. Kelvin” in Mission Impossible III, and there is a Kelvin gas station in Super 8.

Moving on to The Force Awakens, Abrams went a bit more subtle in this one. In one early scene, keen-eared fans will notice Rey (Daisy Ridley) is talking to her droid BB-8. During the conversation, she points BB-9 towards Kelvin Ridge. Hmm, sound familiar? The easter egg continues.

Did you even catch this sly series of easter eggs?
