One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the identity of Star-Lord’s father. According to some new casting intel, Marvel is eyeing a veteran action star for the gig.
The Wrap reports James Gunn’s top choice to play Star-Lord’s father is Kurt Russell, who has had iconic roles in everything from The Thing to Stargate to Escape From New York. His lengthy career also got a boost with a recent roles in the latest Fast and the Furious film (where he worked opposite Guardians voice actor Vin Diesel, it’s worth noting) and The Hateful Eight.
Though Russell is apparently at the top of the list, the report notes Marvel has not formally reached out to him at this point. So, yeah, take it all with a grain of salt. But, if Gunn is eyeing Russell for the role, it does give us an indication for the look and style of the character. Which, heck, Russell himself would be a shoo-in to play old-man Star-Lord — so he’s a solid fit to be the character’s father.
Sadly, the report did not give any indication as to the actual character he could be portraying. It apparently won’t be Quill’s comic-book father J’son of Spartax, but it seems he certainly could be a character with some action chops and swagger. Hey, we’d expect nothing less from the mystery man who passed on Quill’s patented pelvic sorcery.
For those wondering, Gunn himself also issued a public no comment on the report. So, take that as you will.
What do you think? Who could Russell potentially be playing?
