Ridley Scott reveals Alien: Covenant will have those iconic aliens from the first movie

Looks like those face-huggers, chest-bursters and big bad xenomorph aliens we all know and love will be back sooner rather than later.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott opened up about his next project, the Prometheus sequel titled Alien: Covenant, which will begin production early next year for an Oct. 6, 2017, release date.

From the sound of things, the upcoming movie will be more Alien than Prometheus (which is a good thing in my book), as the director promises we’ll get to see some very familiar faces from the first film in the iconic horror/sci-fi movie franchise.

"Well, really it’s “Alien.” They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.

There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two."

Scott also talked about how the late designer H.R. Giger and his creature design made Alien into the movie fans have loved for 36 years:

"Yeah, definitely. I knew we had done something special. I mean, I knew it as soon as I met with [painter, illustrator and creature designer] H.R. Giger. He was an artist in every sense of the word, but very businesslike. There was no rock ‘n’ roll — well, there was quietly, but he never brought it to the set. And I knew I had something special with this creature that he designed. Without that creature, the film wouldn’t have been the same."

Alien: Covenant will feature the return of Michael Fassbender as cray-cray synth David, while Noomi Rapace is set to make a brief appearance as Elizabeth Shaw. Here is an intriguing short synopsis:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Scott recently confirmed that there will be two more sequels to Alien: Covenant, and that we'll catch up to the events of the first Alien movie. What do you think? Are you excited to see the original alien creature from the first film?
