Original Supergirl Helen Slater returns in new Supergirl Episode 5 pics

Fresh new stills from the upcoming fifth episode of CBS’ Supergirl have been released online, featuring original Supergirl herself Helen Slater.

In the new superhero series, Slater plays Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) adoptive Earth mom, Eliza Danvers, while former Superman Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) plays Kara’s adoptive Earth dad, Jeremiah Danvers. Both actors appeared briefly in the pilot, but it looks like only Slater will make it in Episode 5, titled “Livewire.”

Helen Slater was launched into the geekosphere (and onto the walls of fanboys and girls everywhere) when she played Kara Zor-El/Linda Lee/Supergirl in 1984’s Supergirl. While the movie ended up being super mediocre (although my younger self totally loved it), it kick-started Slater's career. It also boasted a stellar cast of legendary actors in Faye Dunaway, Peter O’Toole and Mia Farrow in the role of Kara’s mom, Alura, played by Laura Benanti on the CBS series. Helen Slater's ties to the Superman Universe also extend to The CW's Smallville, where she appeared as Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) Kryptonian mom Lara-El.

Below is the synopsis for Episode 5, which will see the introduction of original Superman villain Leslie Willis/Livewire, played by Brit Morgan:

Kara’s Thanksgiving may be ruined when she suspects her foster mother, Dr. Danvers (Helen Slater), who is coming to town, disapproves of her new role as a superhero.  Also, when an accident transforms a volatile CatCo employee into the villainous Livewire, she targets Cat and Supergirl.

Check out the gallery below, and let us know if you’re looking forward to the “Livewire” episode of Supergirl, set to air on Nov. 23.
