Peter Capaldi reveals when we'll see Clara for the last time on Doctor Who

Ever since Jenna Coleman announced she was leaving the TARDIS in order to play the role of a young Queen Victoria on ITV’s upcoming drama series, we’ve been wondering when Clara Oswald would be departing from the Doctor’s life for good.

Peter Capaldi, who plays the 12th incarnation of the beloved Time Lord, has revealed (via Metro, so grain of salt) that tomorrow’s episode of Doctor Who, “Face the Raven,” would be the companion’s swansong.

“It’s a sad one, gripping and very strange. And it’s the end of the line for Clara Oswald played by Jenna Coleman who’s been my companion for the last two years. It’s the end of her story. I don’t want to go into the details of it, but it’s sad.”

I'm actually surprised Saturday's episode could mark the departure of Jenna Coleman, since there will be two more episodes left before the end of Season 9 -- although the following episode, “Heaven Sent,” will be a Doctor-centric one.

Why am I surprised? Well, there’s that Doctor Who Magazine cover featuring Clara dressed as a waitress (Exhibit A below) and the fact that Jenna Coleman was spotted filming in the same American diner featured in the Season 6 episode “The Impossible Astronaut” (Eddie's Diner in Cardiff, which has a distinctive Elvis mural). So yeah, I’m a little suspicious.

Then again, Clara is The Impossible Girl, so another version of her being at Lake Silencio when the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) “died” is not impossible and will be featured in the finale, “Hell Bent.”

Tomorrow's episode will see the return of Rigsy (Joivan Rade), who was introduced in the Season 8 episode “Flatline,” and Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams as Ashildr. Could one of them become the next companion? Whatever happens, we can rule out Williams, who has prior commitments on Game of Thrones. Here’s the official synopsis for “Face the Raven,” as well as the trailer for the episode which features Clara seemingly saying her goodbyes to the Doctor.

The Doctor and Clara, with their old friend Rigsy, find themselves in a magical alien world, hidden on a street in the heart of London. Sheltered within are some of the most fearsome creatures of the universe, and Ashildr! With a death sentence hanging over their heads, not all of the intruders will get out alive.

What do you think? Do you believe this episode will mark Clara's swan song? At least, this version of her?
