TV THIS WEEK: Adventure Time returns, Elementary's back, and more!

Most of our fall shows have already premiered and are enjoying the respective successes and failures of their runs, but we're not done with premieres yet. This week, both Adventure Time and Elementary make triumphant returns. Plus we take a look at the successes of Supergirl and Limitless, and more.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Adventure Time (TOON) Monday-Friday, 8 p.m.

Five Days of New Episodes! - Adventure Time is back this week for its seventh season, and Cartoon Network is kicking everything off in style with five days of new episodes. Starting tonight and continuing through Friday, new episodes will debut every night at 8 p.m., so you'll get a very large dose of new adventures from the Land of Ooo. Check out a preview for the new season below.

Supergirl (CBS) Monday, 8 p.m. - "Stronger Together"

Yeah, I know, we just talked about Supergirl last week, when the series premiered, but there's more news to cover when it comes to this superhero show. In the months and weeks leading up to the show's debut, there was a lot of debate about not only whether people would embrace a new superhero series, but whether they'd embrace one with this particular tone. The answer to both of those questions, so far, is an absolute yes. Last Tuesday, word came down that the show was viewed by roughly 13 million live viewers, and yesterday we learned that the Live+3 numbers put the show over 16 million. That makes it the most-watched new show of the season, and the second highest-rated in the key 18-49 demo (behind Blindspot). Now, obviously it's early, and we'll have to see how many of those viewers the show retains, but so far Supergirl isn't just working. It's a smash.

Limitless (CBS) Tuesday, 10 p.m. - "Brian Finch's Black Op"

Like SupergirlLimitless was a major genre series launch for CBS this fall, one that hoped to capture continued interest in a feature film as part of an ongoing wave of various film and TV revivals. Personally, this series made me shrug, and I thought a lot of other viewers might agree, but guess what: I was wrong. Limitless has been a massive success for CBS this far, winning its timeslot (a slot that's not exactly easy to win) every week since its premiere and averaging more than 11 million viewers each week. That makes it, alongside NBC's hit Blindspot (and Supergirl, depending on how its post-premiere numbers turn out) one of the biggest new shows of the season, and as a result CBS picked up for a full season a little more than a week ago. So, if you're a fan, get ready for more, and if this keeps up, a second season won't be far behind.

Elementary (CBS) Thursday, 10 p.m. - "The Past Is Parent"

Season premiere! - I've said it before, but it probably bears repeating: Right now, we have two different Sherlock Holmes series on television, and they're somehow both critically acclaimed and home to a very devoted fanbase thanks to their respective efforts to rewrite the Holmes myth. Though the wait for new episodes of Sherlock always seems quite long, the Elementary machine just keeps moving like clockwork, and this week it returns for its fourth season at CBS. Though its debut was marred by Sherlock comparisons, the show has continued to hook viewers, and even as its number have slipped season by season, they haven't slipped much. The show's still averaging more than 11 million total viewers on a very competitive night, and now we get to see if it can continue that trend into a fourth year.

Agent X (TNT) Sunday, 9 p.m. - "Pilot" and "The Enemy of My Enemy"

Series premiere! - This is one of those shows that might have significant genre appeal, or it might not, depending on how things play out. Still, it's intriguing enough at first glance to warrant mentioning this week. In this new espionage series, the Vice President (Sharon Stone) discovers a secret portion of the Constitution that allows for a special agent (Jeff Hephner) to act as what is essentially a one-man army, and solve the United States' biggest crises. It sounds like loads of superspy fun, and the trailers back that up, so let's see what this show holds, shall we?
