Turns out Ant-Man almost had a very sly, but very major, connection to Iron Man 3. Want to see the deleted scene that could’ve tied it all together?
Marvel’s most recent film is already out on digital services, and is set to hit Blu-ray December 8. To help get fans jazzed, Marvel has dropped a ton of special features and deleted scenes from Ant-Man. One scene in particular is an alternate/extended cut of the scene in which Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) is showing off his shrinking technology to potential buyers. The buyer in the foreground? Take a close look at his neck tattoo — it’s the Ten Rings of the Mandarin.
Of course, the Mandarin played a key role in Iron Man 3, though he turned out to be more of a manufactured villain used to hide the real baddies. But, in the short film All Hail the King, we receive confirmation that the Ten Rings is a real terrorist group — and they did not appreciate Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) using their iconography.
So, what does this all mean? Probably, it was just the Ant-Man crew having a bit of fun and dropping in an easter egg. Not to mention the fact that it eventually ended up on the cutting room floor. But hey, if Marvel needs a villain a few more sequels down the road, it’s nice to know the Ten Rings are still waiting in the wings.
