Since many a classic horror movie has put the focus on Frankenstein’s creature over its creator (one recent exception being Kenneth Branagh’s 1994 movie, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein) over the years, it’s actually refreshing to see a new version of the immortal tale centering around Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) himself, and his relationship with his hunchback assistant, Igor (Daniel Radcliffe).
Two new videos have made their way online this week, offering us a fun sneak peek at the on-set, behind-the-scenes shenanigans between the two stars, as well as a look at some cool scenes from the upcoming Gothic horror film. Helmed by Sherlock director Paul McGuigan, the movie also stars some Sherlock alums in Andrew Scott, Louise Brealey and Mark Gatiss. Jessica Brown Findlay, Freddie Fox, Charles Dance and Callum Turner round out most of the rest of the cast.
Here’s the official movie synopsis:
Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé, Igor Strausman (Radcliffe), share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.
Victor Frankenstein will open in movie theaters on Nov. 25, right on time for Thanksgiving. So, here's me giving thanks for Mary Shelley, crazy scientists and literary monsters.
