Sneak peek: NatGeo Channel's Breakthrough premiere takes on pandemics

A couple weeks ago, we hosted an exclusive message from Neil deGrasse Tyson touting the new National Geographic Channel series Breakthrough, which explores discoveries in areas such as brain science, longevity, water, energy and even cyborg technology.

Executive-produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, Breakthrough enlists Paul Giamatti, Angela Bassett, Peter Berg, Akiva Goldsman and Brett Ratner (and Howard himself) to direct an episode each about "scientific explorers" and the advancements that will "change our lives in the immediate future and beyond."

And tonight, in the season premiere at 9 p.m., the show kicks things off by taking on pandemics and how the scientific community is responding and being proactive. Directed and narrated by Berg, "Fighting Pandemics" examines computer programs, antibiotics and more that will be used to battle viruses in the near future.

Though the show premieres this evening, Blastr is taking part in a reveal of the entire episode, available now to view before it airs.

Check it out, and keep an eye on Breakthrough (and pretty slick accompanying website); the series looks to be a compelling show where science fact of the near future resembles science fiction.
