Weird and sweet: Terminally ill 7-year-old deputized to fight off zombies in Florida

Terminally ill 7-year-old Spencer Holt loves the police, and he loves zombies. So the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in Florida decided to put the two together and make for one heck of a fun day for little Spencer.

Spencer has been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, a terminally ill condition. Moved by his plight, and eager to bring two of his favorite things to life (or undead life, whatever), the sheriff’s office reached out to the drama department at the local J.W. Mitchell High School and put together a mini-invasion. The high school students got to show off their best Walking Dead impressions, and the young zombie-fighter was tasked with taking them out.

Little Spencer even got to be formally deputized to help fight off the undead hordes, knocking out two birds with one stone. Check out a local newscast on the event below, and just try not to tear up a little.
