Emma Watson to star in live-action Beauty and the Beast

As everyone who has seen a Harry Potter movie knows, actress Emma Watson can act, but we've never really heard the star sing. Good news: When we do hear Watson, she'll be singing "beautyfully." That's because Watson will be starring as Belle in the upcoming live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.

The 24-year-old actress posted to her Facebook page:

"I'm finally able to tell you … that I will be playing Belle in Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There.' My six year old self is on the ceiling — heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it."

Beauty and the Beast is based on the fairy tale La Belle et la Bête, written by a French woman, Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, in 1756. The story has been adapted multiple times in fiction (including the fabulous Beauty, by Robin McKinley). In film, its most famed productions are the beloved 1991 Disney version, as well as the 1946 Jean Cocteau version, La Belle et la Bête. Its most recent version was the 2011 film Beastly.

With the words "Time to start some singing lessons," Watson acknowledges that she's not currently a singer. You have to admire her for taking a risk and attempting to extend herself. And soon, with the development of her singing abilities, this means there will be "Something there that wasn't there before."
