Rumor of the Day: Aquaman's aqua-foe may be played by Karl Urban

Every good superhero needs a good supervillain. We're already excited by the casting of Jason Momoa as the titular Aquaman for the master of the oceans' solo film...but who will the half-human/half-Atlantean battle for underwater dominance? According to FuriousFanboys, it's looking like Karl Urban.

We know and admire Urban from his roles as Dr. McCoy in the rebooted Star Trek; policeman John Kennex in the late, lamented TV series Almost Human; and Judge Dredd in Dredd. (If he plays the villain, this means Urban will have been a judge and an executioner).

However, there's no word on what role Urban would play. Aquaman, a.k.a. Arthur Curry, has foes both above and below sea level, and we suspect that, for budgetary reasons, this movie will spend as much time above the water as under the sea. This eliminates a chunk of Aquaman's aqua-based foes.

One logical part for Urban would be Aquaman's archenemy, Black Manta - an interesting reversal of race (the character is African-American). Other potential foils include his (younger) half-brother, Ocean Master and Charybdis, who once gnawed off Aquaman's hand. Or, Aquaman can go the way of Dredd and create a whole new villain just for the film.

Whatever the case, we're looking forward to seeing Karl Urban try to put the beat-down on Jason Momoa. Just typing that sentence makes me smile.
