New details emerge on Andy Serkis's Klaw character in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Though it's been speculated on by fans since dissecting the first Avengers: Age Of Ultron trailer in October, it seems Andy Serkis and his sculpted black beard will indeed be playing the abominable Ulysses Klaw in the Avengers sequel.

According to the folks at, one of their solid sources at Marvel confirmed the not-so-secret rumor that the vibranium-obsessed nemesis of the Black Panther will be brought to life by the mo-cap star of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of The Apes.  The character will be a slight variant of the villain from the comics world, apparently a blending of Ulysses Klaw and his father, Colonel Fritz Klaue, the crazed Nazi who battled Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos.  This Marvel source added that "Fritz could possibly have a small appearance in the film or a passing reference, but most of his attributes will be given to Serkis's Klaw."   In comic-book canon, Klaue had previous associations with HYDRA's Baron von Strucker, a pivotal character in Age of Ultron being played by Thomas Kretschmann.

It will be interesting to see how Klaw's villainous motivations in Wakanda will be built up toward the Black Panther solo feature in 2017 starring Chadwick Boseman.   In Fantastic Four #53 from 1966, the story of Klaw's greed and attempt to take over Wakanda was told, exposing him as the one responsible for the shooting death of Black Panther's father and ruler of Wakanda, T'Chaka.   Serkis' animalistic acting chops will be exciting to see when his Klaw is unleashed against the Avengers.

Are you eager to see Andy Serkis square off as Klaw, and did the claw pendant around his neck in the newest Age of Ultron trailer already confirm what you suspected?
