Unused concept art for Affleck's Daredevil is so much better than the movie

Though most of our attention is focused on Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series, Matt Murdock’s first live-action outing is still kicking around in DVD discount bins — and here’s how it could’ve looked a whole lot cooler.

Admittedly, the look of 2003’s Daredevil, directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider) and starring Ben Affleck (The Town), wasn’t really the biggest problem. It was, well, pretty much everything else (though the director’s cut really was a marked improvement) surrounding the muddled tale of the Man Without Fear.

Some vintage concept art created by Warren Manser (The Dark Knight Rises) in 2001 has surfaced, showing off some alternate character designs for major players Daredevil (Affleck), Elektra (Jennifer Garner) and Bullseye (Colin Farrell). The alternate Bullseye design is extremely cool, and we actually dig the more tactical style of the alt-Daredevil suit as well.

The Elektra designs have a more fantastic, comic-styled look — which might’ve actually been a good thing if the costume department could’ve pulled it off effectively. Regardless, this is a fascinating peek into how this film could’ve looked had they gone a different direction in the development phase. Of course, we doubt that would’ve fixed all the other problems. But still, very cool.
