Marvel's Unbeatable Squirrel Girl returns in preview pages from new Issue #1

Marvel is reviving one of its most obscure heroes in the comic canon, and now we have a first look at some lettered pages from the debut issue of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

The new ongoing series looks to be one of the most distinctive books in recent memory, written by Ryan North with art by Erica Henderson. The character of Squirrel Girl, aka Doreen Green, is a mutant superheroine created by Will Murray and Steve Ditko. She’s popped up sporadically since her 1992 debut, and is likely best known as a recent member of the Great Lakes Avengers/Initiative.

Marvel promises this’ll be one of the “nuttiest and most upbeat” comics, and judging by the preview pages, we’re inclined to believe them. The series will follow Squirrel Girl through her life and college career, along with some crime-fighting on the side, of course.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Issue #1 hits comic shelves on Jan. 7.
