TV THIS WEEK: Outlander premieres, a peek at Star Wars: Rebels, and more!

Get ready, time travelers, because another big summer premiere hits this week.

After months of anticipation, Ronald D. Moore's new historical/sci-fi/romance drama Outlander is finally here, and you've even got a chance to watch it before it airs on Starz. Plus Dominion's season finale, an early look at Star Wars: Rebels, a new time for Extant, and much more.

Check out the week in TV below. What's on your watchlist?

Highlights of the Week

Star Wars: Rebels (Disney XD) Monday, 8:45 p.m. - "First Look"

First Look Special! - Rebels doesn't premiere until October, but many fans are already buzzing about the much-anticipated first animated series from the Disney era of Star Wars, especially after San Deigo Comic-Con. To help feed that buzz, Disney XD is finally granting us more than a trailer for the series. Tonight we'll get the first seven minutes of the Rebels premiere, which doesn't seem like much, but it's more than we've had so far. We don't know yet if this series will catch on in the same way that Clone Wars did, but the buzz coming from the people who saw the premiere at Comic-Con is positive, and now we've got a chance to see a little bit for ourselves.

Extant (CBS) Wednesday, 10 p.m. - "What on Earth Is Wrong?"

New time! - Extant debuted to numbers a good bit weaker than the ratings achieved for CBS by last summer's hit, Under the Dome, but the initial totals weren't bad, and we waited to see how the show would do in the weeks that followed. Unfortunately, Extant kept slipping, and last week -- in an attempt to at least stop the bleeding -- CBS moved the drama back an hour, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. For the moment, it seems the ratings have leveled off, which isn't as good as an increase, but at least it's not getting any worse for the moment. Now we have to see if Extant can keep holding on to those viewers or, even better, pick up more. If it doesn't, the show could be in trouble. This week, after Ethan suffers a major setback, Julie and John face off over the right way to take care of him. Check out a preview below.

Dominion (Syfy) Thursday, 9 p.m. - "Beware Those Closest to You"

Season finale! - Earlier this summer, Dominion became a part of Syfy's bid to veer back toward more serious genre programming, arriving with a premiere episode that picked up 2 million viewers and a strong score in the key 18-49 demographic. A few weeks later, it's finale time, and the show is still hanging in there with solid viewer numbers and ratings. The series has slipped below the 2 million mark since its premiere, and stayed there (the last episode posted just under 1.5 million viewers in Live + Same Day numbers), and its demo score has also slid a bit, but neither has dropped by much, particularly that key demo score that's so important to advertisers. Dominion hasn't proven itself a blockbuster series, but it is delivering a reliable audience week after week, and if it can deliver a strong finale it stands an even better chance of sticking around. In the season-one closer, Alex must make his final stand against Gabriel, and the results will change everything.

Legend of Korra ( Friday, 12 p.m. - "Long Live the Queen"

Digital only! - Right about the time San Diego Comic-Con was beginning to ramp up a couple of weeks ago, Nickelodeon made the announcement that Legend of Korra had been pulled from its TV schedule, sending many fans of the series into a panic. Things were made clearer, though, when series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino clarified that the show wasn't actually going away, but being shifted to a web-only distribution system. According to them, the first season of the show did well on TV, but also had a massive online following. Now much of the fanbase has shifted to watching the show online, so much so that online viewership is actually higher than TV viewership. So now Korra will be where its fans are usually looking for it anyway, and new season-three episodes will arrive on every Friday at noon. It's not clear yet what'll happen with season four. Check out a preview for this week's episode below.

Outlander (Starz) Saturday, 9 p.m. - "Sassenach"

Series premiere! - It's been a summer of big genre series premieres, and it's not over yet. This Saturday we get the debut of Outlander, the much-anticipated adaptation by Battlestar Galactica's Ronald D. Moore of Diana Gabaldon's time-travel romance novels. Though Moore did return to television recently with Syfy's Helix, he's taking a more active role in this series, so in some ways it marks his first big TV effort since Battlestar Galactica ended, and it looks primed to deliver. Early buzz about the pilot episode is very positive, and in an effort to encourage viewers to jump onto the series Starz has put the first episode up to stream for free on its website. Now all that's left to do is see if the series is as big as it seems poised to become. In episode one, Claire Randall, a World War II nurse, is somehow transported back to 1743 Scotland. Check out a preview below.
