Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is actually happening, and here's who'll star

Not even development hell could hold it down. We’ve been hearing about a potential Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie for years — and now it seems like it’s finally getting off the ground.

The film has been kicking around in some form or fashion since 2009, when Seth Grahame-Smith’s literary mashup was published. If you’re curious about the plot, the title pretty much sums it up. The book was a hit, though development seemed to cool when another alt-history flick, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, failed to find much success at the box office.

But now Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is back on the fast track. Principal photography is set to kick off in September under Cross Creek Productions, with plans for a wide U.S. release, according to Deadline. We'd think this version will likely be a small-to-mid-budget affair.

The studio has locked in Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down, Charlie St Cloud) to direct, with British up-and-comers Lily James and Sam Riley starring, along with and Australia’s Bella Heathcote. So, relative unknowns, though there is some good talent there.

The film was a high-profile project for a short while back in 2011, back when Emma Stone briefly flirted with the lead role, along with now-producer Natalie Portman. But it seems they’re going with a lesser-known cast with hopes that the book’s lingering popularity can buoy the box-office take.

Are you glad to hear this movie will finally happen, or do you think they missed the window?
