Peter Parker meets his father in this WTF alternate ending to Amazing Spider-Man 2

Fans and critics alike were fairly divided on Amazing Spider Man 2, but have a look at how this thing could have ended. Holy crap, WTF.

An alternate ending from the second installment of Marc Webb’s Spider-Man series has allegedly leaked, showing Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) meeting up with his long-lost father Richard (Campbell Scott) while standing at the cemetery.

Of course, Richard Parker is supposed to be long dead, and we even get a peek at his climatic death scene during that flashback plane crash in Amazing Spider-Man 2. But in this alternate ending, he shows up in the wake of Gwen Stacy’s (Emma Stone) death to be all vague and ominous, while also dropping the signature line “With great power comes great responsibility.”

So what’s the deal? Who knows? Dating back to Webb’s first Amazing Spider-Man film, they positively gutted the thing in editing and never did figure out exactly what type of story they wanted to tell with the elder Parkers. As this piece of footage shows, they still haven’t really figured it out.

Obviously, if this clip had been left in the film, it would’ve drastically altered the ending and the implications of the franchise moving forward, since the orphan arc is fairly central to Peter Parker. And bringing Richard back -- it seems like a reveal of that magnitude would have to play a larger part in the eventual sequel, so the fact that this scene was ever shot tells us that Webb and company are still pretty up in the air when it comes to the overall Spidey story they’re trying to tell.

Check out a copy of the scene below, but move quickly, because the studio keeps yanking ‘em down:

So what do you think? Would this have been a good twist ending, or is it just one more piece of the extremely confusing puzzle?
