A popular Marvel hero may not appear in Age of Ultron as planned. Here's why.

Apparently there's a huge debate happening that surrounds a certain recently popular Marvel figure and their potential place in the Avengers sequel.

The Avengers lineup has changed many times over the course of the comic's run. Really, at this point, almost everyone is at least Avengers-adjacent if they're not an out-and-out member of the team.

But in the movie universe there's just Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow. The unsurprising rumor for quite a while has been that the current lineup is going to change. And more recent rumors have suggested that we'll be meeting the new team members at the end of Age of Ultron. And while some of the names have changed over time, there's one in particular that has allegedly been there from the start.

Ms. Marvel.

Yes -- apparently in the script she's referred to as Ms. Marvel. And, to be clear, we're talking about Carol Danvers, who, in the comics, has been going by Captain Marvel for a few years now. But despite Carol's name having been in the mix for a while, there's a good chance she won't actually make her debut in Age of Ultron after all.

So what's going on? Well, according to Devin Faraci over at Badass Digest, here's the shape of Avengers 2's ending and the issue at hand:

There's enough time passed between the end of the action in Age of Ultron and that final scene for Carol Danvers to get powers, a costume and have a career as a hero, but the powers-that-be aren't sure how this will play on film. Will dropping her in just be baffling to audiences?

And that's a valid question. Obviously, we can draw a parallel here between this potential Carol cameo and the appearance Wonder Woman will be making in the upcoming Batman v Superman. There's a notable difference, though, which is that most people already know who Wonder Woman is. Inasmuch as Carol Danvers has grown in popularity in the last few years, there are probably more people who don't know her than who do.

So we're circled right back to that fundamental question -- does dropping Carol into the Age of Ultron action confuse audiences or entice them?

Well -- you tell us! Would you prefer to see Captain/Ms. Marvel cameo in Age of Ultron, or kick things off with her own film?
