We’re just a few months away from the debut of Disney XD’s new series Star Wars Rebels, and the network has released a digital short to introduce the team and show off some deep-space action.
Though the first full-length trailers have shown off some sweeping effects and big-picture moments, this clip focuses in on the characters and gives us a look at the dynamic of Kanan and Chopper as they zip around on their ship, the Ghost.
The short finds the rebel ship under attack by a wave of TIE fighters as Hera pilots the craft and Kanan tries to blast the Imperials from the Ghost’s turret. While they do evade and shoot down several Imperial craft, it’s up to astromech droid Chopper to finish the job -- even if he’s reluctant to do so.
So, how is it? Honestly ... not great, from where I'm sitting. If this short gives us more of a taste for the tone of the series, we’re sad to say it's a bit clunky. Obviously, this is meant to be a show that appeals to children and adults, but it doesn’t seem to straddle that line nearly as well as the now-canceled Star Wars: Clone Wars did.
Check it out below and let us know what you think:
The series is set to debut on Disney Channel in October, before relocating to its regular slot on Disney XD.
