In first trailer for Halo: Nightfall, soldiers go to hell

Two days ago, we got a look at stills of the character of Jameson Locke in the upcoming made-for-Xbox series Halo: Nightfall. That was so two days ago. Today, Microsoft released a trailer at San Diego Comic-Con that puts the non-Spartan character in action.

According to Xbox:

Halo: Nightfall introduces a pivotal new character, Jameson Locke, a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Earth’s most powerful and secretive military branch. When he and his team are caught in a horrific biological attack, they unravel a plot that draws them to an ancient, hellish artifact, where they will be forced to fight for their survival, question everything, and ultimately choose between their loyalties and their lives.

Halo: Nightfall will tell Locke's origin story and takes place between Halo 4 and the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians. 

Although the trailer has some familiar ONI armor and what looks like Magnums and DMRs, it's light on the Spartan-based action that we salivate over like Pavlov's dogs when we see the Halo logo. The action takes place around a human-killing "element," "sourced from a place no one will go. He says it's sourced from hell." Locke and his team have to find the mine, and the miners, before the element kills again.

Of course, we have faith that there's more to this series than mining and mining-related activities, just as there's so much more to Halo than a first-person shooter. But can the series please have a snarky character in it, now that Cortana isn't around to give us lines like "If I were a megalomanic, and I'm not, this is where I'd be?"
