A new video released by Disney gives us a little preview of things to come from the seasoned version of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode VII.
The clip was filmed during a photo shoot that Mark Hamill did down at Walt Disney World in Florida, where he's appearing at a promotional event called Star Wars Weekends. The shoot and clip show Hamill posing with Mickey Mouse -- and wielding a lightsaber. I don't know about you, but seeing Luke Skywalker with weapon in hand again sends a little chill down my spine, even if it's a toy one.
The other thing to note is that Hamill, who is 60 years old, is looking much better than he has in recent years. The actor had been putting on some weight, but seems to be getting back in shape for his appearance in Episode VII. That bodes well not only for the film, but for his overall health as well.
Here's what he told the Orlando Sentinel:
"I’ve altered my diet. I’ve started working out. There’s that. But on the film itself: I toured the departments, I’ve looked at wardrobe, and I saw the creature shop. I went around and met all the cast people, saw the technicians working on some new things."
Hamill has yet to start filming his scenes, but I hope he keeps the beard for the movie -- it somehow fits, since Luke will mostly likely fill the role of an elder Jedi mentor in J.J. Abrams' film.
Watch the clip of Hamill below, in which he also talks about Star Wars fandom, and tell us what you think of seeing the new and improved Hamill wielding his "elegant weapon, for a more civilized age."
