One of Ben Affleck's Argo co-stars just joined Batman v Superman

The next DC Comics superhero epic just landed another acclaimed supporting cast member.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been filming in Michigan for a while now in preparation for its May 2016 release, but apparently some roles are still being filled. Deadline reported today that Scoot McNairy, who co-starred with Batman himself, Ben Affleck, in the Affleck-directed and -produced Best Picture winner Argo, is now part of the cast, which already included Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg and Holly Hunter, among others.

McNairy's been gradually building a strong acting resume for years now, and the last couple of years in particular have been good for him. After roles in high-profile films like ArgoNon-Stop!2 Years a SlaveThe Rover and the upcoming Gone Girl, he landed a co-starring role alongside Lee Pace in the AMC series Halt and Catch Fire, which just premiered a few weeks ago. The Playlist calls him "the best actor right now that no one has heard of," but it seems he's rapidly becoming someone who everyone will hear of, and a role in one of the biggest superhero blockbusters ever conceived will certainly help with that.

Like Hunter's, McNairy's role in the film is still unspecified, though I've seen no shortage of people on Twitter today wondering what it might be like if he got to play the Flash. He could very well be the kind of actor Zack Snyder and company want as part of the overall Justice League vision going forward, but he could just as easily be a suit at Wayne Enterprises who stays largely in the background, or one of Clark Kent's newsroom colleagues. We'll wait and see if Warner Bros. wants to let us in on the secret. In the meantime, we can celebrate more good casting news for a film that many still have a very high level of skepticism about.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters May 6, 2016.
