With Marvel Comics hitting its 75th anniversary this year, the company has announced an extremely cool comic to celebrate — and it's loaded with awesome goodies.
Dubbed Marvel 75th Anniversary Celebration #1, the anthology comic will feature quite a few nice nods back to the company’s birth, as well as some new surprises. For starters, the anthology will open with a cover by Eisner Award-winning artist Paolo Rivera, which you can find below.
Once inside, you’ll find Bruce Timm’s comic adaptation of Stan Lee’s prose story “Captain America Foils the Traitor’s Revenge,” the first published work by Lee. It marks the first time the story will actually be adapted as a comic, which is kind of cool, and Bruce Timm is awesome — so we’re in.
Along with that, we’ll also see James Robinson and Chris Samnee revisit the Fantastic Four’s origin story, while Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos bring a new story starring Jessica Jones (nice timing, since her Netflix series is currently in the works).
The issue will also include a new Wolverine story by Len Wein and Paul Gulacy, plus a new Spider-Man story by Tom DeFalco, Stan Goldberg and Scott Hanna. Even cooler? Brian Michael Bendis will team up with several artists to create covers to “the comics Marvel never published.”
There will also be some as-yet-unannounced features as well, including articles, retrospectives and a tribute to Marvel writers and artists of yore.
The book is slated to hit shelves in October.
