Rumor of the day: Walking Dead just filmed the death of a MAJOR character

Though we have to wait until this fall to see it in action, work is already well underway on the fifth season of AMC’s monster hit The Walking Dead. So, who might they kill off next?

Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead comics, and potential spoilers ahead for season five!

OK, still here? As fans of the comic know, Glenn gets killed off later in the storyline, once the gang meets up with a new community and has its first ugly run-in with the insane baddie Negan. It’s freaking brutal, and is one of the most painful comic panels to read.

But a new report is making the rounds via The Spoiling Dead Fans that the small-screen version of Glenn (Steven Yeun) will die much sooner in the arc, possibly in the early-to-mid section of the upcoming fifth season, which will find the survivors trying to escape a trainyard run by cannibals.

Here’s an excerpt of the report:

RUMOR: we have heard from multiple sources about a possible death. Word is the death of Glenn was filmed yesterday. It's possible it could be someone else, but multiple sources stated Glenn. Reports are the set was locked down and everyone was told the cast would not be coming out.

Alanna [Masterson] tweeted yesterday during filming 'when someone great is gone.' ... As we stated this is currently a rumor and we are tracking this and trying to get more information. ... Adding fuel to the fire: Steven reportedly left set at 2 or right around then. Alanna's tweet was at 1:28. It's said that Steven was hugging production members and shaking everyone's hand while leaving.

If this is true, we’re extremely bummed to hear Glenn will be making his exit so soon. If nothing else, we were at least hoping he’d hang around until they introduced Negan — but it makes sense they’d want to mix things up, as not to become too predictable for fans of the series in both mediums.

But this also brings up the possibility that Negan could pop up in season five (which is sooner than we’d expect, following the comic-to-TV trajectory), and that could be one heck of a shock if they can pull it off.

What do you think? Does Glenn need to die?
