Ridley Scott may have disappointed us with Prometheus, but it doesn't mean that the director has stopped bringing the fire. In fact, his potential new project, The Martian, looks like it could be smokin' hot.
The Martian is based on a novel by Andy Weir about an astronaut who is stranded on Mars when his crew, who believe him to be dead, evacuate. He has to keep himself alive with limited, depleting resources.
In other words, it's a claustrophobic space story tinged with horror. And we know from Alien that Scott is the best director for that kind of film.
Although some sources say Scott has been confirmed, others say he's still in talks. Although the film is still in the negotiation phase, it's set to star Matt Damon, who handled himself well in the Earth-based sci-fi movie The Adjustment Bureau.
Interestingly, author Weir originally self-published his novel, which was later picked up by Crown Publishing.
