Karen Gillan teases her turn as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy

Want to know more about Karen Gillan’s Big Bad from Marvel's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy?

While promoting her new horror flick, Oculus, the former Doctor Who actress chatted with Screen Crush and dropped a few tantalizing tidbits about her upcoming role in Marvel’s out-there August tentpole.

Though she remained mostly tight-lipped about the blue villainess she portrays, Gillan did let a few things slip. Among them, Gillan said that her character, Nebula, is “a bit of the sadist, she enjoys what she does, and what she does isn’t very nice.” She’s enforcer for Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace, Pushing Daisies, The Hobbit), and will be Gamora’s (Zoe Saldana, Star Trek) nemesis, revealing that Nebula has a “lot of reasons for what she's doing to her.”

The small question of whether Nebula will be the granddaughter of Thanos (whom we briefly glimpsed during the end credits of The Avengers), as she claimed to be in the comics, also arose. Gillan wouldn’t commit to that, but she said that they’ve “re-established it in quite a lot of ways” that the role had been slightly altered, but that there’s an “element of that.”
