WTF?! That Jem and the Holograms movie is starting production in ... 3 weeks?!

Now, that is truly outrageous. I'm sorry. Couldn't avoid it that time.

The fact that there will be a new, live-action theatrical release Jem and the Holograms movie is recent news. Like, really, really recent. But don't assume that means there's a long wait ahead before the movie actually gets made.

In fact, despite the fact that producers Jason Blum and Scooter Braun along with director Jon M. Chi were only just reaching out to fans for help with ideas, the movie is going into production before the month is out. According to Blum, "We start shooting right away. Very soon. In like three weeks."

Can we all just absorb how bonkers that is? A movie that was announced two weeks ago is going into production just over a month later.

If you're wondering how that's possible, Blum explains his formula.

Directors typically have three choices – you do a studio movie and get a paycheck up front, you do an independent movie, which is for your heart and you don’t get paid up front and probably don’t make any money on it, but it hopefully goes to Sundance and is more of an art movie, and then you do TV.  I feel like our company is a fourth bucket, which is to do an independent movie that a studio will release.

So, basically, because it's an indie flick in structure, they can hit the ground running and make the film faster. Which, uh ... could be good? Or it could be disastrous.

On the plus side, there's a new update video that includes *gasp* women who are also helping produce Jem. That's nice, because Jem is kind of a female-centric cast and should probably be made with a female audience in mind. And also an audience of me. I should be consulted. I love Jem.

And then there are those fan submissions. For better or worse, people are definitely passionate.
