Eclectic entrepreneur Kevin Smith is fast becoming the new King of All Media, with film projects, comic-book pitches, podcasts and nerdy cable TV shows populating his vast electronic empire.
Here's news on Anti-Claus, his latest movie project surrounding the legend of Krampus, the evil entiity in folklore and mythology who represents the darker side of the festive holiday season. With his Tusk already in the can, he's trying to squeeze this freaky anthology film in before tackling the convenience-store crazies in Clerks III.
Here's what Smith had to say about his twisted folktale trilogy:
“When I was a kid, if they wanted to make a Christmas horror movie, they’d stick an axe in Santa’s hands. In Anti-Claus we leave Santa alone and creep with the Krampus through twisted tales of holly-jolly murder, desire, desperation and despair. Just in time for the holiday season. In America, we’re taught that nice kids gets presents from Santa and naughty kids get coal. But in countries like Germany, Austria, Bavaria, Romania and Hungary, Christmas is more metal than merry: Saint Nicholas brings a sack full of toys for good kids and the Krampus carries an empty bag for taking away the bad kids. I wanna see THAT Christmas movie. So rather than wait for it, we’ll make it instead.“
The actual Krampus creature is being designed by Robert Kurtzman (Cabin Fever), who also worked with Smith on Tusk. No exact word on who will direct each segment of the film, but it will star Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks.
Anti-Claus starts filming this September, so you better be good for goodness' sake!
