We heard a while back that Fox is prepping a mysterious new Marvel movie, so could this be what it’s all about?
As we continue to wonder what Fox is cooking up to go along with Fantastic Four 2, X-Men: Apocalypse and that Wolverine sequel, Deadpool creator and plugged-in comic writer Robert Liefeld has made it a point to remind us all that the studio already has an “excellent” X-Force script in the pipeline.
We’ll make clear that Liefeld never directly implies X-Force is the mysterious Marvel movie, but it is definitely a viable option. Our take: It really depends on the approach Fox is wanting to take in the long term, meaning they could dig deeper into the canon and try to launch new franchises (i.e. X-Force) or double down on what they already have (i.e. X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover).
Heck, considering that the comic-book-movie saturation level has shown no sign of being reached yet, they could always be planning to do both. Marvel Studios took the same approach, focusing on big franchises first to spin off lesser-known properties, so it’s certainly possible.
Check out some of Liefeld’s tweets on the issue, as well as the future fate of X-Men, below and let us know what you think Fox is doing:
My take on Fox and the X-Universe, pieced together by bits from managers, agents, etc. in Hollywood....— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) March 25, 2014
Fox has made a HUGE financial investment in X-Men Days of Future Past in order to catch Disney/Marvel branded films....— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) March 25, 2014
This has given Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg greater importance and voices within the framework of X-Men development going forward.— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) March 25, 2014
