Fourth season setting, cast and title for American Horror Story confirmed! (UPDATED)

Jessica Lange American Horror Story

It's been rumored for a while, but now we know the official setting and title for American Horror Story's fourth fright-filled (we hope) season, along with some of the returning cast.

Show creator Ryan Murphy revealed via Twitter that American Horror Story's next season will be subtitled Freak Show, confirming that it will take place in a carnival, as previous reports had indicated. Although we knew already that Jessica Lange was coming back for her fourth go-round, EW has confirmed that Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett and Frances Conroy will be back playing performers in the show, while Denis O'Hare and Emma Roberts are "in talks" to return as well.

EW added that Lange will play "a German ex-pat who is managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S." and that the story will be set in Jupiter, Fla., in 1950.

The freak show dates back to the 17th century and has long been a part -- if often an unsavory one -- of our culture, right up to modern-day incarnations like the Jim Rose Circus and the 999 Eyes Freakshow. It was also the setting for one of the greatest horror films of all time, Tod Browning's 1932 Freaks, and it seems like a natural for Murphy and his twisted imagination. We can only begin to guess what kind of visual shocks we'll see in this one.

American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere this fall. What do you think of the title and setting?
