Is a recent Oscar winner set for Star Wars Episode VII?

With Star Wars Episode VII: The Abrams Experience seriously revving up the preproduction machine, casting news has started to filter out at a more frenetic pace, lately. First, we got a list of the five young actors up for a leading role as a young Jedi in the film. Now, word is coming out of the ether that one of the big names from this year's Academy Awards ceremony is extremely close to signing on for a tour of duty in the relaunched franchise.

Yes, it's Lupita Nyong'o, whose absolutely riveting turn as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave (her first major motion picture role, by the way) garnered her rave reviews and one of those little gold statues the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences likes to hand out in the early part of every year.

Latino Review is reporting that Nyong'o is reading for a "major female role" that's not tied into any of the characters or families that appears in Episodes IV-VI. While the actress's reps were mum on the situation, it sounds like a good fit, especially given J.J. Abrams's stated desire for a more ethnically diverse main cast, this time around.

What do you think about the prospect of Lupita Nyong'o bringing her Oscar-caliber presence to the proceedings? Will she fit comfortably in a galaxy far, far away?
