The Vision WILL appear in The Avengers sequel, and look who's playing him

Thursday evening, Marvel announced the newest member of the Avengers: Age of Ultron cast. According to multiple sources, British actor Paul Bettany will appear in the upcoming sequel, but not as Tony Stark's trusty A.I. Jarvis (which he voiced in all three Iron Man films and The Avengers), but as the Vision.

The Vision is a character who's been rumored for the film ever since the bait-and-switch death of Agent Coulson in The Avengers. Some speculated that Coulson would make a return as the beloved android. There were also rumors that Vin Diesel would tackle the role, but the actor opted to voice Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy instead.

The addition of Vision to Age of Ultron makes perfect sense, considering the character's origin. In the comics, Ultron creates Vision as a tool of destruction, but Vision ultimately turns against him and becomes a hero. The question is, how will Ultron fit into Joss Whedon's interpretation? Originally, Hank Pym created him, but it seems as if that duty is given to Stark in the sequel.

Will Bettany pull double duty as both Jarvis and the Vision, or do they become one and the same? While he only voices Jarvis, the actor will physically play the Vision. That means makeup, costume and all. The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to begin production next month, with shoots in England, Italy, South Korea, South Africa and the U.S.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters May 1, 2015.
