Is this how Lionsgate will complete Philip Seymour Hoffman's Mockingjay scenes?

The film world is still reeling from the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Last weekend, the Oscar-winning actor lost his life to an apparent drug overdose. His passing shook his fans to the core and made many wonder about the status of his upcoming films.

The biggest question mark hovered above Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay sequel. Hoffman played gamesmaker Plutarch Heavensbee in the film and had already shot most of his scenes, but there are still a few key sequences that were left in limbo. In that case, a source close to the studio reveals that technology may come into play. The film may digitally re-create the actor for those missing scenes.

"You can do digital things, you can have conversations where you’re not focusing on him but the people he’s talking to," the source told The Hollywood Reporter. Veteran film effects supervisor Rob Legato also chimed in, saying, "These days the technology of using someone's likeness is a whole lot easier to do. I won't say you could generate a Philip Seymour Hoffman with all the acting ability, but you could certainly replicate him for a shot or two."

The Hunger Games: MockingjayPart 1 opens Nov. 21. Mockingjay — Part 2 is set for Nov. 20, 2015.
