Masters of the Universe looking for new director, 3 make the shortlist

Sony Pictures is still scrambling to make Masters of the Universe a reality. The last time we checked, they'd found a director in G.I. Joe: Retaliation's Jon M. Chu, but he's no longer attached. Now Sony has found itself back at square one. According to The Wrap, the studio's wasting no time looking for a replacement.

Three directors have made the shortlist: Harald Zwart, Chris McKay and Mike Cahill. Zwart has worked with Sony in the past and helmed Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and The Pink Panther 2. He's considered the favorite of the group. Next up is McKay, whose involvement seems like  a stretch. He's not an experienced feature director, but he has a history with similar properties.

McKay is one of the producers of Robot Chicken, and served as the editor and animation supervisor on The LEGO Movie. And we all know how much of a hit that film was. Last but not least is Cahill, whose credits include low-budget, sci-fi-themed dramas Another Earth and I Origins. Masters of the Universe would be a huge leap in scope compared to what he's used to.

The latest script for Masters of the Universe was written by Terry Rossio, who also penned The Lone Ranger.

Who do you think should direct the film?
