Conjuring and Watchmen star to join Ant-Man cast

It looks like director Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios are about to add another terrific actor to the cast of Ant-Man.

According to Deadline, Patrick Wilson is in talks to join the film in an unspecified role. Wilson is a genre regular these days, with two recent horror hits, The Conjuring and Insidious, on his resume, not to mention his work as Nite Owl in the 2009 film version of Watchmen (he also had a cameo in Prometheus as Noomi Rapace's father in a flashback).

There was actually some talk a few years back that Wilson would be a good choice for the role of Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, but that idea was put to rest when it was revealed that Michael Douglas would play an older Pym against Paul Rudd as the second Ant-Man, Scott Lang.

Screencrush has a theory that Wilson might be playing Darren Cross, the head of Cross Technology Enterprises. In the comics, Cross has an illness similar to that of Scott Lang's daughter Cassie and holds a doctor named Erica Sondheim against her will to work on a cure for him. It is this that incites Lang to steal Pym's Ant-Man suit and attempt to rescue Sondheim from Cross' clutches -- in the hope that Sondheim can save Lang's daughter as well.

Marvel is still negotiating with Lost and The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly to play the female lead in the film, which would likely be Sondheim if the above scenario holds true (so no love for the Wasp -- at least, not yet).

Ant-Man begins shooting in April and arrives on July 31, 2015. Do you think Wilson is playing Cross, or is there another Marvel character you can envision him taking on in the movie?
