We waited 9 years for Sin City 2, but is Sin City 3 already happening?

It looks like Sin City 3 might already be in Frank Miller's head.

We've waited ever since 2005 for Miller and his co-writer, co-director Robert Rodriguez to finally release their followup to Sin City, the acclaimed adaptation of three volumes of Miller's seven-part noir comic series. The second film, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, is due to finally hit theaters in August, but it only focuses on one volume of the original comic, plus a short story from another volume and more original material by Miller. That leaves more than two volumes of the comic -- the graphic novel Family Values, the final volume Hell and Back, and several stories in the collection Booze, Broads & Bullets -- left to be adapated by Miller and Rodriguez.

So, will it happen? Well, according to Rodriguez, while the film isn't officially in production, Miller's already figured out how to make it.

"Yeah - the second Sin City - I was just here with Frank Miller last night and we were watching it last night. [We] finished the cut, effects are being done, it will come out in August," Rodriguez said during an interview on the Ron and Fez Show on Sirus XM radio. "He [Miller] watched Part 2 - he watched it last night with me and then at the end he said, he didn't have any comments, he was very happy with it. And he said, now about part three.... Started telling me how he's going to do part three. So he's already there on part three."

Rodriguez didn't say exactly how Miller planned to make Sin City 3 happen, or when the film might get made if a screenplay is produced, but we can take this as at least some kind of progress on another installment. Whether that installment would be an adaptation of previous Sin City material or more new stories by Miller is anyone's guess, though.

So, nearly six months before Sin City: A Dame to Kill For hits theaters, we're seeing signs that a third film is in the works. Now the question is: Will we wait another nine years to see it?
