Rumor of the day: Look which Hannibal star is being considered for Doctor Strange

The hunt for a director for Doctor Strange has unearthed a very interesting rumor about who may play the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel's upcoming Phase 3 film. HINT: It’s not Johnny Depp.

According to Bleeding Cool’s report about the possible Doctor Strange director candidates -- of whom they say director Nikolaj Arcel might be the likeliest one -- they reveal that there’s one VERY interesting name that’s been floating around in regard to who should play Strange (because of that link to Arcel, and vice versa).

That one interesting name? Well, it’s none other than Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen.

"According to one pretty solid Marvel-adjacent source, Arcel’s Royal Affair star Mads Mikkelsen apparently is, or has been, somewhere in the mix for the film’s early casting discussions. I’m still trying to find another source on that, or to clarify which part it would be, and whether or not Mikkelsen might have already passed or been passed over."

Marvel already had eyes on Mikkelsen since they originally wanted him in the role of Malekith in Thor: The Dark World. The actor had to drop out due to his commitment to Hannibal and was replaced by Doctor Who's Christopher Eccleston.

Comic Book Movie seems to think that Mikkelsen would be more suited to a role like Baron Mordo, but we’d be behind the 49-year-old Danish actor to play the role of Stephen Strange. It would be nice to see Mikkelsen in the hero’s role instead of playing the villain -- which, to be fair, he always plays to a T.

What do you guys think is this rumor? Would you like to see Mads Mikkelsen in the role of Doctor Strange?
